Because of the extreme cold and harsh weather conditions, people can grow and harvest their crops only during a limited season. After almost 3 to 4 months of hard work, the villagers finally begin harvesting their crops. The harvested crops are brought back to the village and put through a thresher to separate the grains and seeds. These crops are then carefully stored and used throughout the year. What makes this process truly special is the way everyone comes together. Elderly people, women, children and young people all work side by side, helping and supporting one another. Every person has an important role in this traditional farming process. In this vlog, I’m showing you how the people of Saltoro Goma cultivate their land, grow their crops, harvest them after months of hard work, bring them back to the village, use the thresher, and prepare their food supply for the long and extremely cold winter ahead. For these villagers, farming is not just a profession — it is an essential part of their traditional lifestyle and survival. Because of the harsh climate and long winter, the opportunity to grow crops is limited, making the yearly harvest extremely important for families. This is the real village life of Siachen — where people work together, support each other and face the challenges of nature as a community. Through this video, I want to show you the reality of life in Siachen beyond the mountains and glaciers — the hard work, traditional farming, family support, community unity and daily struggles of the people who call this remote valley their home.
