If something went wrong on a crewed mission to Mars, how long would it take for help to arrive? This long space documentary follows four astronauts on NASA's long-stay Mars plan, about 6 months each way and about 500 days on the surface, and at every stage asks the same question: who could reach them, and when. It looks at the space station's lifeboat and the first medical evacuation in its history, the 26-month rhythm of Mars launch windows, a NASA medical model of a 923-day trip, and the spare parts, landings and heat shields a crew would depend on.

Sleeping Cosmos is a place for long space documentaries you can drift off to, keep playing while you study, or put on to unwind as the day winds down. We go far out among the planets and stars and find our way home again, slowly and one story at a time, researched with care and told softly.
Good for:
🌙 Drifting off while a crew crosses the gap between two planets
📚 Studying or reading with a slow Mars voyage playing in the background
🛋️ Winding down at night as Earth shrinks to a single point of light
