RJ Academy introduces a new course of Statistical thermodynamics especially for the students who want to crack their CSIR-NET/JRF chemical science, GATE Chemistry, and other Ph.D. entrance examination.
This course is designed in such a manner that every student will be able to understand the basic concepts of statistical thermodynamics and will cover the entire syllabus of CSIR-NET/JRF and GATE exam.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Statistical thermodynamics is that branch of chemistry that helps in determining thermodynamic entities like P. V, S, T, H, G, A, U, Cp, Cv, q using the quantum mechanic's model.
In quantum chemistry, all we learn is about discrete energy levels. In statistical thermodynamics, we use these discrete energy levels to determine all the thermodynamics entities.
It's quite interesting to know that how Boltzmann connects quantum chemistry and thermodynamics.
We already discussed the general introduction of the Ensemble hypothesis that how Gibbs used the Ensemble hypothesis to calculate thermodynamic entities.
An ensemble can be classified into three categories:
1) Micro-canonical
2) Canonical
3) Grand- canonical
We also discussed the partition function and some features of the partition function. And then we learned some formulas that help us in determining various thermodynamic entities from partition relations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Till now, we have discussed the partition function for the Translational and vibrational degree of freedom and did some previous year questions asked in CSIR-NET/JRF GATE and IIT-JAM.
In this video, we will be discussing the partition function corresponding to the rotational motion for ortho and para hydrogen molecule
