I enter the skull door and a cutscene plays showing more of Alessa's past and how she was abused. Back to the present, Cybil is trying to stop Dahlia, but she is knocked unconscious, it is up to me now to stop the evil from entering our world. The final boss is easy, too easy, she doesn't move, floats in the same spot and just shoots lightning from above, that is a bit hard to avoid, but with enough health recovering items, not much a problem, I sometimes tried to dodge it, mostly not being able to, but sometime stood and continued to shoot at her, and eventually she was defeated. So much Dahlia's god.
And then the game goes to a partial ending, fast credits, and then finishes the ending, completing it with some silly scenes with the cast of characters.
Final Results:
Mode: Normal
Game clear: 1
Ending: Bad+
Saves: 43
Continues: 1
Total time: 6h 30m 45s
Items: 180/204
Defeated enemy by fighting: 156
Defeated enemy by shooting: 40
My final thoughts, Creepy atmosphere though uneven with blend of horrors that seem to be mismatched, with scenes being at times a bit disturbing, but enemies being rather standard boringly generic looking that don't even fit the theme at times. Got The Mist going on blended with Hellraiser. Controls are not very good and response is rather slow for every action from fighting to aiming and shooting to dodging. I enjoy the school, hospital and even the sewer was decent, but not so much the outside areas, which are mostly empty aside from the occasional enemy and trying to find everything in the fog or darkness with so much street to explore gets tediously and annoying. I hate the outside areas when darkness comes in the later part of the game, by that time they upped the enemy count and trying to find a balance to save on ammo and health while trying to explore in a world that visibility is so poor isn't fun, at all.
I know I missed a lot of stuff, but once I got to around the halfway point in the game I sorta was in a dilemma, to finish the game or play something else, as I was only half enjoying it, which means I could have just put it away without a care to see it through, but I did anyway since I've already put aside so many games that I recently started playing and then stopped, so I kinda forced myself to stick to this to the end, though not caring about what type of ending I got. And the story on this one, we've got a cult, some sort of other hellish type world that mirrors our own but not so pleasant, got creatures coming out of an ever persistent fog, except when it turns to darkness, creatures still there, no changes on that to reflect the visual changes, and drug stuff... in playing through this again, I really do think the ones that made the game were on drugs.
Will I play it again? Heck no. If such a time were to come that I do it'll be another decade or two from now as it was last time I played it. I beat this game several times back between 2007 and 2008, had gotten the Bad ending, and Good+ ending, as well as the UFO ending, then played it again in 2011 and decided then since I was on a mapping kick to map out the game on graph paper (I completely forgot about my maps for this, could have used them), don't remember if I beat it again then, as I had outside maps and where everything was, the school and hospital, including how to solve the puzzles, but not any other inside locations including the final version of the hospital so I either got bored of mapping or bored of the game and thus didn't complete it at that time.
So yeah, Silent Hill has some good moments, creepy vibes on the inside areas, but while the story does make sense, it is a bit wacko too, and given how much I did forget about much in this game, I guess it just wasn't memorable enough for my mind to retain.
