"Neutral Ground" is a raw, intimate song written and performed by the late Dutch-American singer-songwriter Michael de Jong. The primary live recording of "Neutral Ground" can be found on his critically acclaimed live album, ''23, Rue Boyer'', which was released in 2004 through CoraZong Records. The live tracks on this album were captured during an intense, sparse tour across European venues, including Carré (Amsterdam), Muziekcentrum Vredenburg (Utrecht), Patronaat (Haarlem), and La Maroquinerie (Paris). "Neutral Ground" alongside "Pretty Girl Why" as the most gripping, intimate highlights of his live sets. De Jong’s performance of the track relies on a stark, acoustic singer-songwriter delivery rather than traditional blues, placing full focus on his weathered, gravelly voice. The song captures his trademark autobiographical themes, exploring personal struggles, dark reflection, and emotional weariness. (Note: A studio version or alternate take of the track was also tracked around 2000 for Munich Records).
