Illuminare Voices of Light Premiere

Illuminare – Voices of Light SATB a cappella Composed by Gerda Blok-Wilson Winner of the 2024 Call for Composition Proposals by i-Coristi Chamber Choir This live concert world premiere was performed in Edmonton, Alberta by i-Coristi Chamber Choir, November 2025. Illuminare – Voices of Light unfolds after a chant, in three short vignettes exploring the symbolic power of light — as guidance, resilience, and awakening. The work was inspired by two bronze torchbearers standing at the entrance to the library at Kilkenny Castle in Ireland. Their presence sparked a question: What significance could two female torchbearers bring? #Illuminare #ChoralMusic #CanadianComposer #WorldPremiere #SATB The performance begins with a procession of lights, illuminating the music’s central image — that even in darkness, light is carried forward. Thank you to the i-Coristi Chamber Choir and Rob Curtis for their sensitivity, imagination, and commitment to new Canadian choral music.
