A Summer Day in Hashimoto, Wakayama | Retro Streets, Hidden Gems & Matcha 🍵📷

On a hot summer day in September, I took a little trip to Hashimoto, Wakayama, in search of a nostalgic glimpse of old Japan. My original destination was a retro Showa-era shopping arcade I had discovered online. Unfortunately, I found out that it had been lost to a fire, so I couldn't see it this time. But sometimes, missing your destination leads you to something even more special. While wandering around town, I came across a wonderfully unusual pair of two-story buildings facing each other across a narrow street — and both were bicycle storage shops! 🚲 The sight was so charming and unexpected that my camera shutter simply wouldn't stop. 😂📷 There were also several beautifully photogenic little alleyways still hidden around the town. I spent the afternoon wandering, photographing, and filming them — completely forgetting how hot it was until I realized I was absolutely covered in sweat. ☀️💦 After all that walking, it was time for a well-deserved cool-down. My final stop was Katsuragikan, a beautifully preserved three-story wooden building and an Important Cultural Property, now home to a lovely café.
