Rethinking Pastoral Development: How Should Donors Fund Drylands Development?

At the practitioner's summer school a group comprised of NGOs and donors was tasked to answer one question: what do donors actually need to do differently to fund drylands development well? This group presentation surfaces concrete, practical recommendations on funding flexibility, community control, and what accountability should really look like in donor-recipient relationships. The group makes the case for flexible, community-directed funding, building on existing systems rather than reinventing them, funding action research and uncertainty rather than shying away from risk, and treating capacity building and transparency as things donors owe their partners, not favors they extend.
