DESCRIPTION The night before D-Day, Eisenhower wrote a note announcing that the invasion had failed. He never had to use it. But for a few hours on June 6th, 1944, it came closer than most people realise. Using real archive footage and the Allies' own plans, this is what would have happened if D-Day had failed. This is an educational alternate-history documentary. Every event before June 6th, 1944 is real; the "what if" timeline is speculation and is labelled as such. 00:00 The note in Eisenhower's wallet 00:48 Part I: The Most Dangerous Day 04:25 Part II: How It Could Have Failed 06:42 Part III: The Day After 08:42 Part IV: Hitler's Second Chance 10:47 Part V: The Red Tide 12:37 Part VI: The World We Would Have Got Sources: Eisenhower's "In case of failure" note (5 June 1944, National Archives / Eisenhower Library), Operation Fortitude, Exercise Tiger (April 1944), Operation Bagration (June 1944), US Army casualty records for Omaha Beach, Harry Butcher's diary.
