In this episode of A Sip of Chemistry, I interview Michel W. Barsoum, Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University and one of the leading figures in modern materials science. Professor Barsoum is widely known for his groundbreaking work on MAX phases—a unique class of materials that combine metallic and ceramic properties—and for pioneering research that led to the discovery of MXenes, a rapidly growing family of two-dimensional materials with applications in energy storage, water purification, sensors, and flexible electronics. In our conversation, we discuss the story behind MAX phases, the discovery of MXenes, and how these materials are changing the field. We also discuss broader topics such as maintaining high-quality research across hundreds of publications, the philosophy behind his work, and his advice for young materials scientists entering the field. With over 600 publications and a major impact on materials science, Professor Barsoum shares insights from decades of research at the frontiers of chemistry and engineering. #ASipOfChemistry #MichelBarsoum #MaterialsScience #MAXPhases #MXenes #Nanomaterials #Ceramics #2DMaterials #EnergyStorage #ChemistryInterview #Engineering ------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I'm Mojtaba Abbasi, with a Ph.D. in Chemistry. I've been working on glasses for several years. Recently, NMR has become the primary characteristic technique for exploring the glass structure. I'll post content mainly related to these two topics on this channel. I am excited about this channel and look forward to sharing exciting content here. By the way, I have another channel named Timeless Nature, in which I share nature videography and photography content, which are my new hobbies. ------------------------------------------------------------ Watch Next: Interview with Prof. Terry Gullion | inventor of REDOR pulse sequence | A sip of Chemistry | Ep. 21    • Interview with Prof. Terry Gullion | inven...   Interview with Prof. Mattias Edén | Solid-State NMR in Glass Science | A Sip of Chemistry | Ep.#20    • Interview with Prof. Mattias Edén | Solid-...   Interview with Dr. Dušan Galusek, Director of Funglass institute, A Sip of Chemistry, Ep. 19    • Interview with Dr. Dušan Galusek, Director...   Interview with prof.
