Thousand Island Lake. A 28-mile, partial loop, four-day backpacking trip in the eastern Sierra Mountains with about 2600’ of elevation gain to the lake. The trip features an incredible alpine lake with a towering granite peak above it and miles of views to the surrounding peaks.
Directions:
Start by entering into your map app, “June Lake, CA”. Once you take the turn-off from Highway 395 to the lake, you’re on Hwy 158 (June Lake exit). Drive to Silver Lake Resort and just beyond the resort, the signed “Rush Creek Trail” parking lot is on the west (left) side of the road. There are flush toilets at the trailhead.
Permit:
You’ll need to apply for a permit. Go online six months before your travel date (when 60% of permits are issued), or try for one two weeks before your trip (online or in person). For more information, go to: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/inyo/pas...
