The King's Chamber is lined with red granite: walls, floor and roof. The stone came some 800 km down the Nile from Aswan. Yet the two great pyramids of Khufu's father at Dahshur seem to have none.
Why go to all that trouble, and why only here? Some say the granite was chosen for what it does, not for how it looks: quartz in granite makes electricity under pressure.
We map where the granite sits, see how it was worked at Aswan, read what Petrie measured on the roof beams, and test the physics claim at full strength. Then we travel to the Inca walls of Cuzco: poured, or pounded?
Part 2 of 2 of "Cast or Carved", episode 4 of our PYRAMIDS series.
