The city that began as Terminus, the end of the line, is now spending $5 billion to fill in the hole its railroads left behind. Metro Atlanta is home to about 6.48 million people and added almost 62,000 more in a single year. Only Houston and Dallas grew faster. For half a century, the answer was to build outward with another lane and another exit. Now, for the first time in a generation, the money and the cranes are aimed at the center of the city. This countdown covers seven megaprojects that are under construction or lined up going into 2027. We start with the I-285 Top End Express Lanes, which would rise above the Perimeter. Next is Five Points, where MARTA is taking the station's concrete canopy apart piece by piece while trains keep running underneath. Then come the 16-mile Georgia 400 Express Lanes and the Stitch, a 14-acre park planned over the Downtown Connector. At Hartsfield-Jackson, the world's busiest airport, crews are widening Concourse D. We also cover the Atlanta Beltline, which now has 16.7 continuous miles of trail out of a planned 22, and the fight over the rail that was meant to run beside it. Number one is Centennial Yards, a 50-acre city within a city rising out of the Gulch between Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena. We look at who's paying for it and what's missing from the plan. Subscribe for more videos on the megaprojects reshaping America's cities. #Atlanta #Megaprojects #UrbanPlanning
