Demo of MEGAN XG 0.9.0. Multitimbral Emulator, Generator, Audio Nexus for XG MIDI. MEGAN XG is an emulation of a Yamaha MU100 tone generator, running as a Windows VST3 in your DAW or as a standalone, together with a full-screen parameter editor in the style of XGEdit95 — with numerous changes and additions. Many years ago I composed music using hardware and software that was eventually abandoned because it was no longer commercially viable to support or maintain. My old incomplete projects got harder and harder to work on. So I used AI to help me build something that would work on the computer I have now, and hopefully on the ones I will have later. Because it took many hours over many months and builds upon or was inspired by the work of others, I wanted others to have it, too. I hope this project also helps other musicians' old projects to find a second life. Runs on the MAME Yamaha MU100 emulator engine by MAMEDev and contributors, ported from MAME to JUCE with extensive bug fixing and adaptation by Dave Wheitner and AI. Borrows from the SD-1/32 MAME to JUCE port by Sojus Records. Editor views follow the layout of XGEdit95 by Gary Gregson, rebuilt in JUCE, updated and expanded by Dave Wheitner and AI. Accessibility support follows guidance published by joeloftusdev; it is groundwork only and has not been tested with a screen reader. Includes MAME(R) emulator components and is built with JUCE. MEGAN XG is licensed under the GNU AGPL v3. Provided as-is, as a hobby project. No support or future updates are promised. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Yamaha Corporation. Windows VST3 and standalone binaries, user manual, and source code (with MAME and JUCE patches) available at https://github.com/bboxdave/megan-xg Music: "Old Skool" (C) 2007-2026 by Dave Wheitner. Audio produced by MEGAN XG plugin, processed through Mspectraldynamics and Ozone at mixdown. Some of the additions and changes compared to the old hardware and software that inspired this: -Per-part volume and MIDI input indicators -Additional non-resonant 2-pole high-pass filter (per-part and system) more suitable for basic mixing/cutting lower end mud -Three additional per-part peak EQ bands -EQ graphic editor screen with adjustable nodes and animated frequency display -EQ bypass -Parts selectable both in voice list and under graphic editor screens -Precise value displays on graphic editor screens -Undo/redo with visible and scrollable history -Subset of parameters assignable to DAW automation -Display of CC MIDI or XG MIDI parameter value overrides -Tempo-syncing of some effects (primarily delays) -Extensive editable keyboard shortcuts -Separate per-part audio outputs with automated or partially-automated output track naming in some DAWs (tested in Cubase and Bitwig) -Per-part mute/solo -Many display customization options, including both dark and light themes -More options for data editing and entry (scroll, mousewheel, typing in values, fine adjustment)
