Papa Earl Dawson couldn't boil an egg when his wife Corinne passed, and he ate cereal most of that first year. These are the 30 dump and go slow cooker dinners he taught himself after, most with only three ingredients and nothing to chop, and every one cooked in a slow cooker liner so the bag goes in the trash and the crock goes back in the cabinet clean. He counts them down from thirty to one: salsa chicken, honey garlic chicken, pintos with a ham hock, sweet potatoes cooked in a dry crock, a Georgia cola ham, chicken and dumplings with a dish towel trick, the chuck roast that fooled his grandson, a brown sugar balsamic pork tenderloin that eats like a thirty-dollar plate, his daughter's three-can chili, Dr Pepper ribs, his sister Ruby's collard greens, and peach preserve pork chops from Corinne's last jars. And there's a meatloaf that's been sitting in his crock since the start of the video, on one cheap thing he laid down first. He finally shows you what's under it before Corinne's Sunday pot roast closes it out.
In this one, Papa Earl covers:
• 30 easy slow cooker dinners for one, most with three ingredients and nothing to chop
• The no-cleanup way to cook in a crock: which liners to buy, the one rule you never break with them, and the suppers that need no liner at all
• Senior cooking made safe and simple: thaw your meat first, leave the lid shut, cook on low and never on warm, and the safe temperature for every meat
• Cooking for one without waste: flat freezer bags, a small crock for small suppers, and a ham bone that makes a second supper for free
• The meatloaf that lifts out of the crock in one piece, and the nickel's worth of something from your kitchen drawer that does it (finally revealed)
Tell Papa Earl in the comments where you're watching from, and who did the cooking at your house growing up. He reads every last one.
