Your outfit is right. Your glasses are right. And something about the hair still feels wrong, and you cannot name what.
Here is the reason, and it took me years of fitting rooms to see it. Your hair and your frames are two frames around one face, and only one of them is allowed to be the loud one. When both are heavy, they compete, and your face gets caught in the middle of the argument.
So if your glasses are bold, the hair goes quieter. If your frames are fine or rimless, your hair can carry all the volume and texture it likes, because nothing else is claiming that space.
The 5 cuts that work with glasses:
• The soft layered bob, the most balanced of them, and why it sits level with a frame without crowding it
• The pixie with volume at the crown, the most face opening cut here and the best answer to a heavy frame
• Shoulder length with layers, for anyone not going short, and the one rule that stops it fighting your frames
• The lob with wispy bangs, light at the brow, softness without weight
• The classic updo, the one that makes a frame look chosen rather than accidental
Then the two things almost nobody explains. **The temple arm**, where the arm of your glasses crosses your hair, and why layers that start at the temple push a bulge outward and make your hair look like it sticks out in glasses. And **frame colour against hair colour**, because silver hair beside a cold silver frame gives you two greys with nothing between them, while the same hair beside warm tortoiseshell lifts your whole face.
Comfort and your prescription come first, always. And a cut that needs twenty minutes every morning is the wrong cut, however lovely it looks on the day you leave the salon.
Tell me in the comments how long you have worn glasses, and whether anyone has ever cut your hair with them in mind. I read every single one.
