In Eastern Uganda, Harriet, Esther and Deborah share their experiences of caregiving, exclusion and the struggle for dignity. This short film from IDIWA explores how disability-related stigma, poverty and climate stress intersect in the lives of marginalised women, particularly those caring for children with disabilities.
Through their stories, the film reveals losses that cannot be measured in money: dignity, belonging and psychological well-being. It shows how harmful beliefs around disability can lead to abandonment and isolation, while climate impacts place further pressure on livelihoods and daily life.
Discover how community advocacy, legal support and collective action are challenging discrimination—and why recognising these often-invisible forms of non-economic loss and damage matters for a more inclusive future.
This story was produced under the non-economic loss and damage (NELD) fund. The NELD project is implemented by IDIWA Uganda with learning support from SouthSouthNorth, funded by the Climate Justice Resilience Fund (CJRF) from the Scottish Government.
Filmed, edited and produced by Kalmax Productions, Kenya.
