Vanity | Day 11 | Midnight Prayer | Minister Melinda Douglass Scripture(s): Ecclesiastes 1:1-8 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].” 3 What advantage does man have from all his work Which he does [a]under the sun (while earthbound)? 4 One generation goes and another generation comes, But the earth remains forever. 5 Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hurries to the place where it rises again. 6 The wind blows toward the south, Then circles toward the north; The wind circles and swirls endlessly, And on its circular course the wind returns. 7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again. 8 All things are wearisome and all words are frail; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing. Ecclesiastes 1:14 AMP I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity, a futile grasping and chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 KJV Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. 2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. 3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. 4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. 5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. 6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 KJV Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Prayer: My Lord and Creator of all! Thank you for your favor and mercy towards me. Abba, only you know the condition and motives of my heart and my heart has not been pure before you. Purify me Lord and cause me to hunger for you over what you can do for me. Remove my desire to be seen, heard, acknowledged and every vanity that is planted deep within me. Help me to trust your wisdom and timing, as your way and your timing is perfect. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
