On a remote ridge in Nagaland, the course of the Second World War in Asia turned. The Battle of Kohima became one of the most decisive battles of the Burma Campaign, as Allied forces fought to stop the Japanese advance toward India. Around Garrison Hill, the Tennis Court, and the Imphal Road, soldiers endured starvation, exhaustion, artillery, and close combat while the battle continued through the hills. But the story of Kohima was never only about soldiers. It was also about the Naga villagers who lived among those ridges — people whose courage, endurance and humanity brought food, carried the wounded, guided soldiers through difficult terrain, and endured the destruction brought to their homeland. The ridge became a battlefield. The battlefield became history. And the people who lived through it carried that history home. Ridge of Destiny remembers Kohima not simply as a military victory, but as a landscape of sacrifice — where ordinary people and soldiers found themselves standing inside one of the great turning points of the twentieth century.
