MBARARA AIRPORT PROJECT: Debate whether the project deserves priority rages

As the government advances plans for a mega international airport in Mbarara, debate continues over whether priority should instead be given to upgrading and fully utilising the country's existing aerodromes. Some argue that Uganda should first strengthen its domestic aviation infrastructure, expand internal flight networks, and maximise the benefits of domestic air travel before embarking on such an ambitious project. While the proposed airport is being promoted as a potential global aviation hub, a tour across the country reveals significant infrastructure gaps, alongside untapped opportunities within the existing network of aerodromes.
