Jennifer Check was hungry long before the demon.
Most people talk about Jennifer's Body as a possession movie. Others call it a feminist masterpiece that was ahead of its time.
I think both readings miss something important.
Before the ritual, Jennifer was already performing. For the boys, for the school, for the attention that taught her being wanted was the same thing as being valued. The demon made that hunger visible.
In this epidode of The Horror That Raised Us series, I'm exploring Jennifer's Body as a horror film about performance, desirability, and social consumption and what it taught Millennials about the difference between being wanted and being valued.
