Learn how to turn everyday activities into purposeful planned experiences in an early years setting. This lesson introduces a simple three-part framework: objective, activity and intended outcome. You will see how the framework can be applied to sensory play, group role-play in a pretend shop, an outdoor nature walk and an open-ended creative art session. The examples show how practitioners can support fine motor development, communication, social learning, observation, creativity and emotional expression. You will also explore how thoughtful questions can extend children’s thinking, language and problem-solving during play. The lesson explains why an objective gives an activity purpose, while a clear intended outcome helps practitioners recognise progress. Finally, it demonstrates that effective experiences do not need to be elaborate or resource-heavy. By starting with what children should gain and choosing an activity that naturally supports this learning, practitioners can plan meaningful experiences across different areas of development.
