Why does an autistic child experience and respond to the world the way they do? And why can something that seems simple to us — a change of plans, starting a task, answering a question or being asked to do something — sometimes be so difficult? In this free webinar, Jackie Hall from The Parental Stress Centre explores some of the differences in how the autistic brain may process information and how those differences can influence behaviour, emotions, communication and everyday life. Rather than starting with “How do I stop this behaviour?”, we start with a different question: “Why does this behaviour make sense?” Because how we understand a child's behaviour influences how we respond to it. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: In this webinar, we'll help you better understand why an autistic child may think, feel and respond differently — and what that means for the way we support them. Why behaviour that can look defiant, difficult or confusing may actually make complete sense when you understand what's happening underneath. Why some autistic children can find change, transitions, everyday tasks, expectations and demands so difficult. How differences in the way the autistic brain processes information can affect attention, emotions, communication, flexibility and behaviour. What PDA is, why a demand can trigger such intense anxiety, and why “won't” may actually be “can't right now.” How the way we communicate, respond and make requests can either increase pressure or help a child feel safer and more in control. Practical ways parents, carers and professionals can become more neuro-affirming while still helping children build the skills they need for everyday life. The Parental Stress Centre is a neuro-affirming organisation supporting both parent and child mental health. 🎓 CONTINUE WITH THE COMPLETE FREE AUTISM PARENTING PROGRAM If this webinar has helped things make more sense and you'd like to go deeper, our complete 9-week Autism Parenting Program is now FREE on YouTube.
