The visible scenes in Nairobi came as the Government of Kenya clarified that visa-free entry or exemption from Electronic Travel Authorization requirements does not automatically grant foreign nationals the right to work, trade, or operate businesses in the country. Authorities stated that foreign workers and traders possessing valid work permits, licences, and other required documentation remain legally protected and may continue their activities. Kenyan police also warned members of the public against harassing, attacking, evicting, or unlawfully closing businesses belonging to foreigners. Police stressed that immigration enforcement must be conducted exclusively by legally authorized government agencies. Meanwhile, Burundi’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Édouard Bizimana, maintained that official explanations concerning work permits did not fully address allegations that some Burundian nationals had faced threats or mistreatment.
