This is my second attempt at composing classical music, but the first work I am happy with. I was inspired by feelings of ambivalence that I often find myself feeling, as if I'm trapped in a sort of limbo between positive and negative emotions. I feel like my emotions can often be very erratic, and can shift very suddenly from one colour to another, so I tried to convey these changes through this piece.
My influences in this piece include many composers from Scriabin, Prokofiev, Debussy, Medtner, or Rachmaninoff all the way to Kapustin and others. I think because my influences are quite broad, it hopefully doesn't sound like I'm imitating anyone's style in particular.
As I'm still a beginner when it comes to composing, the piece might lack some structural or harmonic coherence at times (I haven't been taught composition), but I'm still happy with how far I've come nonetheless. Thank you for listening and for reading this, I'd really appreciate any feedback or thoughts you have, so please share your comments!
Also this was recorded using a Roland FP30X on default settings, so it was a bit hard to capture some of the nuance that a real piano can afford.
