Why do public matches on the reworked Nebelburg map feel so fragmented? Part 1 of this comprehensive tactical map guide dissects the geography from the perspective of the SPG class across 7 featured battles.
We evaluate exactly which firing positions work depending on your spawn, and expose the massive structural imbalance between the two sides of the map. We analyse why it is near impossible for artillery to support the heavy tank corridors due to the towering vertical walls of the castle architecture, and highlight the extreme operational penalty suffered by short-range vehicles — such as the Tier 6 British FV304 —which are forced to overextend on a map of this scale.
Nebelburg's layout has segregated the different tank classes into isolated pockets where team-based fire support is effectively neutralised, which seems to be the current approach adopted by Wargaming. This essentially makes the role of "support tanks" pointless, a topic that will be explored in a follow-up Nebelburg guide about the other vehicle classes, heavies, mediums, lights and TDs.
Watch my original analysis released just 2 days after the rework went live, where I predicted this exact class segregation we see in the actual battles: • Nebelburg map design
