Sega Model 2 on MiSTer: three cores now! Model 2, Model 2A (11 games) and a first look at Model 2C with House of the Dead and Over Rev. It's been a huge week and a half since the last video, so this is a big catch-up. There are now three Sega Model 2 cores: the original Model 2, Model 2A, and Model 2C, which is shown here for the first time. 🏁 MODEL 2: Daytona USA, Desert Tank, Virtua Cop Full speed: races went from mostly 30 to a solid 57.5 fps with a faster main CPU Desert Tank and Virtua Cop joined Daytona on one core. Virtua Cop's I/O board is recreated, light guns work from a stick, mouse or USB gun, with 2 players and crosshairs Mip-mapping (Sharp / Medium / Smooth / Off), and Daytona's road stays sharp in the distance Sound at the arcade's balance and tempo, steering wheel support, and split/merged ROM sets Daytona link play (experimental): race other MiSTers, or PCs running my Daytona USA recompilation, over your home network Virtua Cop: the ammo display works, the clouds are white again (they were black), and Desert Tank's colours now match MAME New "Gun flash" option for CRT light guns in Virtua Cop 🧪 MODEL 2A: 11 games, out of beta Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop 2, Zero Gunner, Pilot Kids, Manx TT Superbike, Hanguk Pro Yagu 98, Sky Target, Dynamite Cop, Motor Raid and Dead or Alive The 2A sound board (68000 + Sega's SCSP) went from silent to matching MAME, with Volume up to 400% and Raw Sound Boost 128 MB SDRAM support: six games are bigger than 64 MB Sega Rally and Manx TT now run at full speed. The main CPU keeps its registers on chip and has a small data cache, which also fixed Rally's blinking and flying opponents. The game was cutting its AI when it ran short of time! Virtua Fighter 2's random freeze, caught on the board by skipping Pai's backflip win pose: the geometry chip's result queue overflowed and the game waited forever Dead or Alive: floors, a constant bass drone and a freeze in every match, all fixed Plus texture stripes in four games, Manx TT's half speed and crash, Virtua Cop 2's stage-select text and much more 🧟 MODEL 2C: first look (not released yet) Model 2C uses a completely different geometry chip, the Fujitsu TGPx4. I built a new one for the FPGA that matches MAME instruction for instruction, over millions of outputs, and fits in the space the old chip used The House of the Dead runs and plays at full speed, gun flash included Over Rev races at full speed. It needed a new CPU instruction for its speed contest, and its road textures now match MAME Sega Touring Car Championship is next. Once three games are solid, a Model 2C beta will follow 📺 15 kHz rebuilt with retrorepair's scan converter: it fills a CRT top to bottom, HDMI keeps working, and every game has a [15kHz CRT] MRA. Huge thanks to retrorepair! ⚠️ Still on the list: Sega Rally and Manx TT settings not saving, some slowdown in busy moments of Motor Raid, and Daytona's volume control. Please keep the reports coming on GitHub! 📥 Download (Model 2 and Model 2A, one folder): https://github.com/alphanu1/sega-mode... ROMs are MAME 0.289 sets. The README lists what each game needs.
