A damaged shore-power connection can put expensive RV electronics at risk before you ever realize something is wrong. In this video, Dennis Morgan walks through a simple 5-minute RV shore-power inspection you can use before trusting a campground pedestal with your RV. You’ll learn how to check the pedestal visually, inspect your shore-power plug and cord, use an electrical management system correctly, route and connect the cord safely, and then perform the step many RV owners forget: rechecking the connection after the RV has been operating under load. We also cover warning signs such as: burned or discolored receptacles damaged plug blades cracked or worn cord insulation loose connections low or high campground voltage open ground or open neutral conditions reverse polarity overheating plugs and adapters unusual electrical odors Dennis also explains why an EMS is different from a basic surge protector, why adapters do not create additional electrical capacity, and why a connection can overheat without immediately tripping a breaker. If a campground pedestal appears damaged or your protection equipment detects a wiring fault, do not open or repair campground electrical equipment yourself. Contact campground management or a qualified electrician.
