Don't Tap Your Foot on the River | Southern Gothic Dark Americana (Official Full Lyric Video)

Southern Gothic dark Americana story song with blues harmonica, rolling banjo and river ghost folklore — Don't Tap Your Foot on the River. The old river folks say a white steamboat comes through the fog before the big winds, every lamp lit and fire on the stacks, and the cypress never burn. What did the old folks tell you to do if you heard music on the river at night? ▶ MORE SOUTHERN GOTHIC STORY SONGS    • Southern Gothic Story Songs   ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE STORY ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Granddaddy had one rule on the ferry crossing: if you hear a fiddle in the fog, don't you tap your foot. Tie your skiff to the nearest cypress and lie down flat as a log. He saw the white boat seven times, and seven times he didn't ride. Cousin Ray had music in him. He couldn't sit still through a hymn. The night the white boat passed the landing, his boot heel kept time. We found his skiff come morning, rope still tied, oars laid neat, and on the deck in the river mud, the prints of dancing feet. After that, Granddaddy held his own knee with both hands every time that steamboat came. He hummed a hymn against the fiddle and never said Ray's name again. Now the ferry is mine. Tonight the radio is calling rain, and there is a fiddle in the fog playing Cousin Ray's tune. I tied my skiff and lay down flat, just like Granddaddy said. But my boot heel has been keeping time since before I went to bed. The sweeter the fiddle, the harder it'll blow. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Welcome to Holler Signal.
