Miscarriage of Justice: A Call for Justice, Due Process and Human Rights

The right to a fair trial, due process and equal protection under the law are fundamental to any democratic society. Yet when legal proceedings become prolonged, questions naturally arise about the protection of these rights and the human cost of delayed justice. This session brings together members of civil society to raise their voices for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, two human rights lawyers whose cases have drawn concern among colleagues, rights advocates and members of the wider legal community. Rather than prejudging the outcome of any legal proceedings, the discussion will focus on broader questions of due process, access to justice, the protection of human rights defenders and the importance of an independent and fair legal process. How do we safeguard fundamental rights when those who defend them themselves face legal challenges? What does meaningful due process require?
