🌧️ *A road trip to Navsari that turned into an unforgettable monsoon experience!*
Welcome back to another travel adventure with *Biker-Bites!* ❤️
Our plan was simple: leave Thane early in the morning, drive towards Navsari and reach home by the afternoon. But sometimes, even the best-laid plans take an unexpected turn.
We intended to leave at 8 AM, but finally started around 9 AM. The rain had already brought red alerts, flash flood warnings and reports of road closures. We had seen an overturned truck earlier, yet we hoped conditions would improve as we travelled.
*Would we make it to Navsari, or would the monsoon force us to change our plans?*
🚗 *THE JOURNEY BEGINS*
We began our drive from Thane, hoping to reach Navsari safely. The roads initially looked clear on our side, although traffic was building up in the opposite direction. The rain, however, continued to pour.
Our first stop was the familiar restaurant where we had enjoyed mandi on an earlier trip. This time, we stopped for breakfast. I ordered omelette pav, while Renish tried kheema pav. The kheema pav was a hit, but the omelette had chunks of uncooked masala that I personally did not enjoy.
After breakfast, we continued our journey, enjoying glimpses of the beautiful mountains and monsoon scenery along the way.
🌧️ *WHEN THE WEATHER TOOK A SERIOUS TURN*
As we travelled further, the rain became increasingly heavy. We received reports that roads around Valsad and Vapi were affected, and some routes were being closed.
Then came the moments that made us realise how unpredictable the situation had become. We saw overturned trucks, JCBs assisting with recovery work and signs of trouble along the route. Our GPS began directing us to turn back, while mobile network and internet connectivity became unreliable.
Without a dependable connection, it was difficult to check updates or contact others. We continued cautiously for a while, but the situation required us to think carefully about our next move.
☕ *A HALT AT AHURA HOTEL*
We eventually stopped at Ahura Hotel, a Parsi food joint, to take a break and assess the situation.
Of course, a visit to a Parsi café calls for chai and bun maska! The bun maska was delicious, and it gave us a little comfort during a stressful journey.
As lunchtime arrived, we also enjoyed chicken biryani and kachumber. Even amid the uncertainty, we appreciated the food and the opportunity to rest while trying to understand whether it was safe to continue.
But reaching Navsari was becoming increasingly uncertain. We heard that the Vapi route was closed and that heavy rain and water conditions could leave us stranded.
🛑 *THE DECISION TO TURN BACK*
By the evening, the warnings and road conditions made one thing clear: reaching our destination was not worth risking our safety.
With reports of high alerts and water being released from the Walsad dam, we decided to head back towards Thane rather than push ahead. We were grateful that we had not become stranded on the road and could return to relatives for the night.
It was disappointing not to reach Navsari, but we were thankful to be safe.
❤️ *THE BIGGEST LESSON FROM THIS JOURNEY*
Sometimes, we plan a trip and become determined to reach our destination. But the weather does not follow our plans.
This journey reminded us that it is important to check official weather and road advisories, pay attention to local warnings, and be prepared to stop, change routes or postpone travel when conditions become dangerous.
Please do not copy our decision to continue driving during severe weather. If authorities issue warnings or roads are closed, follow their instructions and choose safety over reaching your destination.
We are sharing this experience honestly because we hope it helps someone else make a safer decision.
