Western Kentucky 20, Georgia 70
Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA. September 12, 2026
Second-ranked Georgia debuted its all-white uniforms for the first time in program history and made it a memorable occasion, routing Western Kentucky 70-20 behind a record-tying five touchdown passes from quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Georgia wasted no time setting the tone. Linebacker Anthony Kruah forced a fumble on the opening kickoff, and cornerback Demello Jones recovered it at the Western Kentucky 18-yard line. Two plays later, Stockton found tight end Ethan Barbour for a 7-yard touchdown just 61 seconds into the game. Georgia kept pouring it on from there, piling up four touchdown drives that took under a minute apiece, plus a defensive score and a special-teams touchdown. The Bulldogs scored 49 points in the first half alone, matching a mark the program has hit only a handful of times in its history, finishing the opening two quarters with 343 total yards. Georgia's outburst included the program's first kickoff-return touchdown since 2016.
Stockton, who had gone 15 of 16 passing with three touchdowns in the season opener against Tennessee State, was even sharper against Western Kentucky, completing 13 of 16 attempts for 234 yards and tying a program record with five passing touchdowns. Backup quarterback Ryan Puglisi got an extended second-half run and delivered a highlight of his own, breaking off a 70-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter, the longest rushing touchdown by a Bulldog since Ladd McConkey's 70-yard score against Mississippi State back in 2022, capping a three-play, 84-yard drive in just 52 seconds to push the lead to 55-6.
Western Kentucky, playing just its second all-time trip to Athens after a 48-12 loss back in September 2006, got some late touchdowns against Georgia's reserves to make the final margin look closer than the game ever actually was. Georgia finished with 493 total yards of offense while holding the Hilltoppers to 225.
The win improved Georgia to 2-0 on the season, extending the program's dominance in the all-time series to 2-0, both wins coming by lopsided scores. Western Kentucky fell to 0-2. Georgia opens SEC play next Saturday on the road at Arkansas.
