Echternach, Luxembourg (1945)

Film showing the devastation in Echternach after World War II. During the concluding months of World War II, from 16 December 1944 until 25 January 1945, Echternach served as the southernmost point on the battlefront for the attempt of the German Wehrmacht forces attacking the Allies to retake Antwerp, during the Battle of the Bulge. The town was badly damaged during the fighting, as were many other villages and towns in the North of Luxembourg, but it was thoroughly restored after the war.
