Changing your mindset can help. You can think more positively, challenge limiting beliefs, change old patterns, repeat different thoughts, and begin seeing life differently. And sometimes it works. But what happens when the new mindset begins fading and the old way of thinking quietly returns? That was something I kept noticing in myself. I had changed thoughts, shifted perspectives, worked on patterns, practiced positive thinking, and tried to become a better version of myself. Yet underneath many of those new thoughts was often the same conditioned identity. That began revealing something deeper to me: Identity comes before perspective. The way I see myself shapes the place from which I think, interpret, react, choose, and move through life. So even when the thought changes to: “I am enough.” there can still be an old identity listening to those words from a place that believes otherwise. That changed the way I began looking at mindset work, self-improvement, and inner transformation. I started wondering whether lasting change could really happen through constantly managing the mind: watching thoughts, correcting thoughts, replacing negative thoughts, trying to think positively, trying to maintain a better mindset. Because changing the thought does not necessarily change the one who is thinking it. Through spiritual awakening and unbecoming, I began seeing the conditioned identity underneath many of the thoughts I had spent years trying to fix. And as that identity began loosening, my relationship with thought changed too. Thoughts still arise. Old conditioning still speaks. The mind can still become noisy. But a thought appearing is different from believing that thought is who I am. For me, deeper change has required less mental management, not more. There is less need to constantly control the mind when I am no longer asking every thought to tell me who I am. What I once tried to create through mindset, positive thinking, and self-improvement began happening differently through inner transformation. Not simply a different perspective. Something deeper than perspective was changing.
