Getting a credit card in Japan felt impossible for three years, despite having a stable job and a valid visa. Many people moving abroad encounter unexpected hurdles, and for me, navigating the financial system was the most frustrating part of my new life. Even with steady employment, I faced constant rejections that made daily tasks, like getting an ETC card for my car, incredibly difficult to manage. After years of trying to figure out the rules of banking in Japan, I finally secured an approval through a simple chance reapplication. This experience highlighted the realities of expat life, where persistence often matters more than logic when dealing with local institutions. It is a reminder that while living in Japan has its challenges, sometimes the breakthrough comes when you least expect it.
