On April 7, 1972, Joseph "Crazy Joe" Gallo was shot dead inside Umberto's Clam House on Mulberry Street in Little Italy while celebrating his 43rd birthday. Decades later, Frank Sheeran claimed responsibility for the killing in Charles Brandt's 2004 book "I Heard You Paint Houses," and Martin Scorsese's 2019 film "The Irishman" put that version of events on screen. The historical record tells a different story. Witnesses inside the restaurant described the gunman in terms that do not match Sheeran, a 6'4" Irish-American Teamsters official. Joseph Luparelli, a Colombo family associate who later became a cooperating witness, named a different man entirely: Carmine "Sonny Pinto" DiBiase. No one was ever charged with Gallo's murder. In this documentary, we examine the Gallo–Colombo war, the night of the shooting, what the witnesses actually reported, and why so many investigators and historians reject Sheeran's confession. 🔔 Subscribe for more documentaries on the real history behind America's most famous mob films. #TheIrishman #JoeyGallo #MafiaHistory
