On the morning of April 26, 2026, I traveled to Kyoto at daybreak.
I went to photograph Ryoanji shortly after its gates opened.
It was a quiet hour, with few visitors.
The stone garden, Kyoyochi Pond, the wisteria, and the flowers by the water.
And a great egret, standing by the pond as if it had been waiting for my visit.
In the spring light, its white form became one with the landscape of Ryoanji.
On that day, I also photographed Kinkaku-ji.
Ryoanji and Kinkaku-ji.
Two worlds in the same city of Kyoto, each with its own beauty.
The silence of Ryoanji’s stone garden.
And Kinkaku-ji in the light of spring.
I captured the landscapes I encountered that day in 216 photographs.
All the piano music is performed by Irina Mejoueva.
From Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words: Spring Song, Sweet Remembrance, and The Shepherd’s Lament.
Then music by Medtner.
Finally, Liszt’s Consolation and La Campanella.
Songs without words become one with the spring landscapes of Kyoto.
The sound of the piano flows through the stone garden, the pond, the flowers, the great egret, and Kinkaku-ji.
The beauty encountered on a quiet spring morning comes to life again with the music.
This 26-minute 4K work is made from 216 photographs.
Please enjoy it on a large screen, together with the music.
