A Forgotten Train Is Back! | Bulleh Shah Passenger | Lahore - Kasur - Pakpattan

This is not just another train journey, it is the story of a train that remained closed for 15 years and has finally been restored by Pakistan Railways. The train is Bulleh Shah Passenger (257UP / 258DN), a branch line passenger service that runs between Lahore and Pakpattan via Kasur. It is named after the great Punjabi Sufi saint and poet Baba Bulleh Shah, whose shrine is located in Kasur, making this route even more meaningful for the people of the region. I reached Lahore Junction around 3:00 PM to attend the inauguration ceremony and witness the train's very first run after restoration. The atmosphere at the station was full of excitement. The coaches had just come out of the carriage factory and looked fresh and modern, which gave hope that this service might receive the care it deserves in the future. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by the Federal Minister for Railways, Mr. Hanif Abbasi, after which the inaugural train was officially flagged off. Just a few minutes before departure, I booked my ticket through the Rabta App and boarded the train for a short journey from Lahore to Kasur. As soon as the train started moving, it became clear how much this service had been missed. At stations like Kot Lakhpat and Raiwind Junction, large numbers of people gathered to welcome the returning train. Even at stations where the train was not scheduled to stop, people stood along the platforms and tracks just to watch and celebrate its return. The ride itself was simple, nostalgic, and full of old branch line charm. We reached Kasur Junction right on time, where the celebrations were even bigger. Railway staff, passengers, local residents, and railfans had all gathered to witness this historic moment. Because of the complicated shunting operations required at Kasur, the train remained there for about an hour before continuing onward to Pakpattan. As evening approached and the train finally departed around 7:00 PM, I stood on the platform and watched it disappear into the distance, feeling happy that a forgotten railway route had been given a second life. This was more than a train journey; it was a rare railfan day filled with history, nostalgia, and hope for the future of Pakistan's branch lines.
