Everyone argues about who invented the hamburger — five different Americans have been credited, and state legislatures have literally passed resolutions over it. But almost nobody argues about the cheeseburger. In 1935, a Denver restaurant owner actually trademarked the word "cheeseburger" — and that's just the beginning. In this video we trace the burger's real story: the double-decker sandwich invented in a California drive-in thirty years before the Big Mac took credit, an Oklahoma "onion burger" born out of Great Depression scarcity that's still celebrated today, a British hamburger chain that beat McDonald's to Europe by decades, and the 1986 protest near Rome's Spanish Steps that sparked an entire international food movement built around a snail. 👍 Like the video if you learned something new. 📺 Subscribe for more strange and fascinating food history #hamburger #foodhistory #cheeseburger #bigmac #fastfoodhistory #burgerhistory #culinaryhistory #streetfood #fooddocumentary #morsellore hamburger history, origin of the hamburger, who invented the cheeseburger, Louis Ballast cheeseburger trademark, Big Boy burger history, Bob Wian double decker burger, El Reno onion burger, Oklahoma onion burger history, Wimpy hamburger chain UK, McDonald's history, Jose Bove McDonald's protest, Slow Food movement history, Spanish Steps McDonald's Rome, smashburger history, food lore, history of fast food
