Have you ever felt like you want to change your life, but big goals feel too overwhelming?
That’s exactly what James Clear talks about in his New York Times bestseller, Atomic Habits.
The main idea is simple but powerful: You don’t need to change everything at once. You just need to get 1% better every day.
Clear says that habits are like compound interest. A small change today won’t look like much, but over months and years, it creates an extraordinary result. This is what he calls "Perubahan Kecil Yang Memberikan Hasil Luar Biasa" - small changes that deliver remarkable results.
Here are the 3 key ideas I took from the book:
Number 1: Focus on identity, not goals. Don’t say "I want to read." Say "I am a reader." Every action you take is a vote for the person you want to become.
Number 2: The Four Laws of Behavior Change. To build a good habit: Make it Obvious, Make it Attractive, Make it Easy, and Make it Satisfying. And to break a bad habit, do the opposite.
Number 3: Environment is more powerful than motivation. Instead of relying on willpower, design your environment. Want to read more? Put the book on your pillow. Want to stop scrolling? Put your phone in another room.
What I love about this book is that it’s not about motivation. It’s about a practical system. It’s about building a system where good habits happen automatically.
This is not just a book about habits. It’s a guide on how to change your identity through small, daily actions.
Have you read Atomic Habits? What habit are you trying to build right now? Let me know in the comments.
