6 DGFI Officers in Islamabad: Pakistan-ISI Move & India Security Alert?| Anshu Joshi | Amber Zaidi

Six Bangladesh DGFI officers have reportedly reached Islamabad just days before Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s expected India visit, raising fresh questions about the evolving Bangladesh-Pakistan-India strategic equation. According to a report by NE News, six Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officers left Dhaka for Islamabad on August 15 on an undisclosed mission. The delegation, led by Colonel Magfuz-ul-Bari, is reportedly expected to meet Pakistani intelligence counterparts. The development comes as preparations continue around Tarique Rahman’s possible maiden official visit to India. Why is the timing important? Why Islamabad just before Delhi? Is this a routine intelligence engagement, a diplomatic signal, or part of a broader Bangladesh-Pakistan security dialogue? In this detailed geopolitical analysis, we examine the reported DGFI movement, Pakistan’s possible role, Tarique Rahman’s upcoming India engagement and the changing strategic environment in South Asia. We also examine how Bangladesh’s new government is attempting to balance its relationships with India, Pakistan and other regional powers. The India-Bangladesh relationship has been going through an important reset. Earlier in 2026, Bangladesh’s DGFI chief Major General Mohammad Kaiser Rashid Chowdhury visited India and held meetings with senior Indian security officials, including NSA Ajit Doval, DGMI Lt Gen RS Raman and R&AW chief Parag Jain, according to Indian media reports. That makes the latest reported DGFI movement to Islamabad particularly interesting from a regional-security perspective. At the same time, Tarique Rahman’s proposed India visit remains subject to diplomatic developments, with reports indicating discussions over the visit and sensitive issues including Sheikh Hasina’s extradition.
