The answer to my title question is a big, obvious “yes.” In this video, I talk about four major superstitions that are extremely common in everyday life in China. Across generations — young and old — these beliefs are deeply rooted in Chinese culture. There’s even an old saying people often use to justify why they still believe them: “宁可信其有，不可信其无.” Literally, it means “better to believe it than not,” which is basically the Chinese version of “better safe than sorry.” There are many more superstitions in China, and some are so normalized that people don’t even realize they are superstitions. They think they’re just common sense. For example, I was constantly told never to sleep with wind blowing directly on my face at night, or I’d wake up with facial paralysis. I heard it so many times, from so many different people, that I believed it well into my mid‑thirties. Pretty brainwashing, huh?
