Christopher Engman is the author of Megadeals and founder of Njord. He has spent years working with large deals, key accounts and some of the most complex parts of B2B sales and marketing. In this episode, we talk about what changes when the market is finite, sales cycles are long, and a relatively small number of accounts can drive most of the business. I'm Tihon Erofeenko, and this is Finite Markets Lab - a podcast about how GTM actually works in markets where every account, relationship and reputation matters. In this conversation, Christopher and I cover: why reference market fit can matter more than product-market fit why going narrow can make growth easier in complex B2B land, expand and cross-sell as a growth model why large B2B companies often depend on a relatively small number of key accounts why lead KPIs can push marketing and sales in different directions why a key account is not just another lead how to orchestrate multiple stakeholders, opportunities and relationships inside one account why founders often try to step out of sales too early how to scale founders and rainmakers instead of replacing them too fast BBR - Burning Bridges Rate - and why aggressive outbound can be dangerous in finite markets why traditional attribution gets difficult in high-complexity B2B how sales conversations can become a source of strong thought leadership content One of the most useful ideas in the episode is Christopher's concept of reference market fit. You can have a product that works across many industries, but if every new buyer still sees you as an experiment, growth stays hard. Once you win several similar companies in the same market, perceived risk drops and the next deal gets easier. We also spend a lot of time on a problem I see in founder-led B2B companies all the time: The founder, rainmaker or senior commercial person is still critical to the biggest deals - even after the company has hired a sales team. The instinct is usually to replace that dependency. Christopher's view is different: first figure out how to scale the person who already knows how to win. -- Finite Markets Lab is conversations with founders and practitioners who've actually operated inside finite, relationship-driven markets - what worked, what burned access, and what they'd never do again. Topics: complex B2B, B2B growth, GTM, enterprise sales, founder-led sales, key accounts, account-based marketing, finite markets, land and expand, rainmakers. #B2B #GTM #EnterpriseSales #FounderLedSales #FiniteMarkets
