In April 2026, three members of the BD Explorer Group successfully completed the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek, covering approximately 66.3 kilometers in 6 unforgettable days through the heart of Nepal’s Annapurna region. The journey unfolded beneath some of the most iconic Himalayan giants. The sacred pyramid of Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain) dominated the skyline throughout the trek, its twin summit rising sharply above the clouds like a silver blade. Nearby, the massive walls of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli glowed in shifting light—golden at sunrise and deep crimson at sunset—creating a constantly changing alpine spectacle. Acclimatization and Trek Strategy : To ensure proper acclimatization and reduce altitude sickness risk, the team followed a carefully planned gradual elevation gain. Instead of rushing toward higher camps, we moved step by step through each altitude zone, allowing our bodies to adapt naturally to the thinning Himalayan air. This slow and steady approach not only ensured safety but also made the experience richer—giving time to enjoy dense rhododendron forests, peaceful Gurung villages, and the dramatic transition from green hills to alpine wilderness. Into the Alpine World: As the trail climbed above the forest line, the landscape transformed into a raw Himalayan environment of rock, ice, and snow. Each step felt more exposed, more silent, and more powerful. The final push toward Mardi Himal Base Camp 4,500 m ) was the most thrilling section of the entire journey. A narrow, exposed ridge covered in fresh snow led toward the summit zone, with steep drops on both sides and strong icy winds cutting across the mountain. Walking along this white ridge beneath the towering presence of Machapuchare felt surreal—like moving through the sky itself, surrounded by the giants of the Himalayas. Location Overview: Mardi Himal Base Camp lies in the Annapurna Conservation Area, in Nepal’s Gandaki Province, east of the Annapurna Base Camp route and north of Pokhara. Nearest city: Pokhara Base camp altitude: 4,500 m Region: Annapurna Conservation Area Main peaks visible: Machapuchare, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal The trek is known for: Ridge walking with 360° Himalayan views Dense rhododendron forests Fewer crowds compared to ABC and Everest routes Extremely close views of iconic Annapurna massif peaks.
