Ithran, which means “stars” in the local tamazight language, was founded in 1984 and managed to break through with Amazigh music from the Rif region. Their first album, released in 1986, was an immediate success with more than 600,000 copies sold. This was followed by many performances, with which the group also achieved success in the Netherlands and attracted a large audience. This year Ithran was awarded the Gold Medal at the Festival International d'arts et des cultures in Rabat. Ithran's music is characterized by the use of western pop music instruments such as electric guitar, drums and keyboard, along with elements of northern Moroccan folk music. The band members intertwine this with music from the 1980s. They know how to appeal to the audience with their song lyrics that focus on the political and socioeconomic conditions of the Nador region of northern Morocco. Mimoun Rahmouni, Ithran's lead singer and guitarist, performs their most iconic songs during this concert. Ithran's star reaches far into the heavens!
