🖌 Paint green grapes in watercolour in this extended real-time workshop, exploring rounded forms, luminous highlights, and richly layered shadows.
I begin with a watercolour-pencil drawing, comparing the shapes and positions of the grapes and mapping their highlights. From there, we develop the painting through wet-in-wet washes, softened transitions, deeper greens, and textured finishing marks.
Along the way, I demonstrate:
• Drawing the grapes and branching stem
• Planning highlights before painting
• Mixing greens with indigo, cadmium yellow, and Payne’s grey
• Blending light and shadow across rounded forms
• Softening edges with a damp brush
• Building depth through successive layers
• Adding broken texture with scumbling
• Painting slender stems and darker accents
This workshop follows the painting at an unhurried pace, with time to observe how the washes settle and how each layer changes the forms.
