Today we are going to talk about Granulomatous Meningoencephalomyelitis (GME), an inflammatory disease of the canine central nervous system and one of the conditions included under Meningoencephalitis of Unknown Origin (MUO). In this veterinary educational video, we explore the suspected immune-mediated pathophysiology of GME, including how T lymphocytes, macrophages, and other inflammatory cells accumulate within the nervous system, producing inflammation, tissue injury, edema, and neurological dysfunction. 🔬 Topics covered in this video: 🐕 What is GME? Understanding granulomatous inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. 🧠 Pathophysiology: How abnormal immune responses contribute to nervous tissue injury and disrupted neuronal signaling. 🔍 Forms of GME: Focal, disseminated, and ocular presentations. 🚨 Clinical signs: Seizures, ataxia, blindness, proprioceptive deficits, paresis, paralysis, spinal pain, and other neurological abnormalities. 🧪 Diagnostics: Neurological examinations, MRI findings, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, infectious disease exclusion, and histopathology. 💊 Treatment: Immunosuppressive medications, including prednisone, prednisolone, cytarabine, cyclosporine, and mycophenolate mofetil, along with their mechanisms of action. 🐾 Supportive care: Seizure management, nutritional support, fluid therapy, and physical rehabilitation. 📈 Prognosis: Treatment response, potential relapse, and the importance of long-term neurological monitoring. This video is intended for veterinary students, veterinary technicians, veterinarians, pre-veterinary students, and anyone interested in veterinary neurology, immunology, and canine medicine.
