Domestic Abuse & Society’s Response | Health, Finance & Well-being Series | Episode 4 Domestic abuse is not always physical, and it is not limited to abuse between a husband and wife. Abuse can take many forms — physical, emotional, psychological, financial and controlling behaviour — and it can occur within marriages, relationships, families and other situations where there is an imbalance of power or control. In this episode of The Exclusive You – Health, Finance & Well-being Series, I am joined by Nneka Kigosi, a life coach and mother of five, for an important conversation about domestic abuse and how society responds to it. This discussion was originally recorded in 2022 at a time when the tragic death of Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu had brought conversations about domestic abuse, marriage, faith and societal expectations to the forefront. We explore some difficult but necessary questions: 🔹 What constitutes abuse beyond physical violence? 🔹 Why do people sometimes remain in abusive relationships? 🔹 How should families, communities and society respond when abuse is taking place? 🔹 Can cultural or religious expectations make it more difficult for someone experiencing abuse to seek help? 🔹 What responsibility do each of us have in recognising and challenging abusive behaviour? Although this conversation was recorded in 2022, the issues discussed remain relevant today. 💬 LET'S TALK What do you think society can do differently to recognise abuse earlier and better support people experiencing it? Please share your thoughts respectfully in the comments. ▶️ Explore the other episodes in the Health, Finance & Well-being Series playlist. 👍 Like | 💬 Comment | 🔔 Subscribe | ↗️ Share Please note: This programme is a general discussion and is not a substitute for professional advice.
