Meet the wooden bandsaw box we cut from one beech blank, where the two eyes and the mouth are three drawers that pull all the way out.
The order of cuts decides everything on a box like this. The blank itself is two boards glued face to face, so the first job was getting that joint to disappear before anything else happened. Then we sliced the back off, cut the drawer blanks out through the face, hollowed them, and glued the back on last. Every part came out of that same blank, so the grain still runs across the whole face when the drawers are closed, and you only see the shape of the face, not the joints.
Kerf width was the thing we kept fighting. The saw takes material away, so a drawer never fits back into the hole it came from without some thought about which side you lose it from. We cut the eyes on a tighter radius than felt comfortable, which is why they sit so close together and still clear each other on the way out.
The mouth drawer is the deepest of the three and the one that does the most work. It holds the bigger things, so we hollowed it further than the eyes and left the front wall thick enough that the pull peg has something solid to sit in. Pull it out and the face changes expression. That was the whole reason to put it where it is.
