🇰🇪 I Escaped Nairobi for a Day… and Found THIS! Sometimes you just need to escape the hustle and bustle of Nairobi, slow down and enjoy a little slice of paradise! 🌿🦒 And believe it or not, this incredible getaway is only a couple of hours from Kenya’s capital! My day began with a wonderfully peaceful yoga session on the shores of Lake Naivasha, surrounded by beautiful scenery, birdsong and the sounds of nature. What better way to start the morning? And of course, no adventure of mine would be complete without a proper pot of tea! ☕ A relaxing stop at Sanctuary Farm Café, followed by a delicious breakfast at the wonderfully laid-back Carnelly’s, set me up perfectly for the day ahead. But the real adventure was still to come! I headed out onto Lake Naivasha for an incredible boat trip, spotting hippos lounging in the water and magnificent African fish eagles soaring overhead. 🦅🦛 🌍 A little about Lake Naivasha… Situated approximately 90 kilometres northwest of Nairobi, Lake Naivasha is one of Kenya’s most beautiful natural treasures, nestled in the spectacular Great Rift Valley at around 1,890 metres above sea level. Unlike many of Kenya’s Rift Valley lakes, Naivasha is freshwater, despite having no visible river flowing out of it! It’s surrounded by volcanic landscapes, including the impressive Mount Longonot, and is home to hippos, giraffes and an extraordinary variety of birdlife, with more than 400 species recorded in the area. The lake is also famous for its dramatically changing water levels. In recent years, rising waters have submerged trees, flooded sections of shoreline and transformed parts of the landscape. Designated a Wetland of International Importance in 1995, Lake Naivasha is an extraordinary place for nature lovers, birdwatchers and anyone looking to escape city life. 🌿 Then it was on to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, one of Kenya’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences, where you can actually walk amongst wild animals without a safari vehicle! Imagine strolling through the beautiful landscape with giraffes wandering nearby! 🦒 There was even a little excitement as I found myself keeping well out of the way of some hippos! After a rather hot walk, a delicious ice cream was the perfect reward! 🍦 From peaceful lakeside yoga and leisurely cups of tea to close encounters with Kenya’s incredible wildlife, this really was a day to remember. Kenya never ceases to amaze me. You don’t always need to travel far or spend a fortune to discover somewhere truly special. At 57, I’m loving exploring, trying new experiences and sharing these adventures with you. Life is far too short to stop being curious! 🇰🇪 If you’d like to visit Sanctuary Farm I’d highly recomend it for solo travellers, families, groups and it’s very child friendly. They have farm homes, a campsite, cafe, boat trips & horse riding: https://sanctuaryfarmkenya.com/ ❤️ If you enjoy my adventures, please give this video a thumbs up, comment, subscribe to @beck_fearless and join me as I continue discovering Kenya and beyond. 💬 Have you ever visited Lake Naivasha or Crescent Island?
